I dont know what to do about this.?

So i have a friend and we went out. Its been lke four weeks and we had a talk and I found out he still loves his ex. But he said he really likes me. He just needs time to think he said. I want to know how I can get him to choose me. Just answer me that. We talked and he knows Im hurt. I want to try and be a friend to him while hes thinking this over. But how can I get him to pick me? good answers please. Oh and they went out for like two years. I know they have more history than me and him. But is there any chance he will pick me? Hes really upset and is really thinking about this..
